Dr. Angelene Jamison-Hall
As part of Black Career Women's 25th anniversary, we are recognizing women who have gone the distance with us, who were there from the beginning lending support, serving as advisors, leading committees, attending and presenting at our events, freely offering their expertise and asking nothing in return. They have been the constant wind at our back. They have not only made contributions to Black Career Women, but they have made significant contributions in their field.
Dr. Angelene Jamison-Hall is one of these women. As Professor of African American Studies and Women Studies at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Jamison-Hall teaches courses in African American literature. Her scholarship includes articles specifically related to Black women's literature. Dr. Jamison-Hall is published in such collections as
World Literature Criticism, 1500 to the Present, ed. James P. Draper, Gale Research, Inc.,
Censored Books: Critical Viewpoints, eds. Burress, Karolides and Kean,
Critical Essays on Phillis Wheatley, ed. William Robinson, and
Black Women Writers (1950-1980), ed. Mari Evans. Her work has also appeared in several academic journals such as
Obsidian II: Black Literature in Review, Sage: A Scholarly Journal of Black
Women, Western Journal of Black Studies and Journal of Negro
Education.
Often called upon to speak on African American literature and other topics relevant to African American culture, Dr. Jamison-Hall contributed an article to the Urban League's publication,
The State of Black Cincinnati, titled "A Matter of Race: Leadership, African Americans and the Politics of the Corporate Community." Her passion is writing fiction and she has given numerous readings locally and nationally.
From 1981-1987, she was Chair of the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati, but at the completion of her administrative term, chose to return to teaching and writing. Currently, she is concentrating on writing fiction and developing a narrative history of U.C.'s Department of African American Studies.
Dr. Jamison-Hall is a graduate of Bennett College for Women, (B. A. in English), the University of Cincinnati (M. A. in English), and the Union Graduate School (Ph.D. in African American Studies, with a concentration in Literature).
Black Career Women salutes Dr. Angelene Jamison-Hall for her professional accomplishments and for her years of giving back to her community. When BCW thinks of women we could count on for 25 years, we think of women like our friend and colleague Dr. Jamison-Hall. Thank you, Angie, for helping BCW to advance black women in their careers across the United States.
Happy Anniversary to one of our lifetime members!
