Ethel
Cormier, Ph.D.
Associate Director,
Snacks and Beverages Technology
Dr. Ethel Cormier is an Associate Director of Snacks and Beverages Technology at the Procter & Gamble (P&G) Company. She is responsible for Micronutrient New Business Development & Licensing and is especially focused on improving the nutritional health of those suffering from micronutrient deficiencies “hidden hunger” in developing countries.
Dr. Cormier started with P&G in 1988 after completing her Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Over the last eighteen years with P&G, Dr. Cormier has worked in a number of business units including Fabric & Home Care, Corporate R&D, Pharmaceuticals and Personal Health Care. She has also held a variety of functional roles within R&D, including Professional & Regulatory Services, New Drug Development, Clinical Development, New Business Development, and Technology Development. She is the author of a number of scientific journal articles and book chapters as well as a presenter in various professional and community forums.
Her work has been national and international in scope and included a three year assignment in Asia. Dr. Cormier was the first African American at P&G to take an international assignment in Japan, living in Kobe from 1993-96. She is a founder of the Research & Technology Careers in Industry (RTCI) conference, which is an education and recruitment program for minority Ph.D.s. who are exploring careers in industry. Over fifty, Ph.D.s have been hired into P&G through RTCI which has resulted in P&G having one of the largest group of corporate, African American Ph.D.s. in the United States. She also leads the Black Technical Ph.D. group at P&G and is a member of the R&D, Black Leadership Team.
Dr. Cormier is the 2002 recipient of the “YMCA Black Achiever Award” and the recipient of the Greater Cincinnati Women’s Network “Leading Women 2000 Award”. She is currently serving on the boards of the Foundation of Compassionate American Samaritans, Air Stores, Inc., Black Career Women and Execucircle National Advisory Board. Dr. Cormier is a former board member of the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council and is a member of the volunteer staff of her church.
