Linda Bates Parker Named Global Citizen and inducted into Greater Cincinnati International Hall of Fame. (11/17/04)

Cincinnati, OH - On Monday, November 15, Linda Bates Parker was honored during a reception at the Aronoff Center for the Arts and inducted into the Greater Cincinnati International Hall of Fame as a Global Citizen.

Whether as Director of the Career Development Center at the University of Cincinnati or in her work with Black Career Women (BCW), a national organization she founded and directed, Ms. Linda Bates Parker has sought to promote an international outlook and has gained international recognition for her efforts.

Ms. Parker co-founded Execucircle, an annual international professional development conference for African Americans, held in developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean and South America. She is also the co-founder of the "Can We Talk?" National Diversity Forum. As a recognized expert in the areas of race relations and diversity, she is regularly sought as a diversity consultant by corporations, educational institutions, federal and local agencies, civic organizations and community leadership groups.

In 1995, Ms. Parker created the International Careers Forum as part of the UC WorldFest campus-wide initiative, to encourage U.S. born students to understand the importance of work and study abroad, as well as to help international students on campus learn about employment in the United States.

Her long list of awards and honors includes having been named one of the Cincinnati Enquirer's Women of the Year in 1983 and a ZONTAS International award recipient in 1998. She served two terms as a board member of the International Red Cross, was recognized by Working Mother Magazine in 2000 as a Champion of Diversity, was honored by Women, Inc., a Jamaican women's organization in the late 80s, for her work with in Jamaica following a devastating hurricane in that country, and has mentored numerous students from the Caribbean, Africa, China and Brazil during her UC tenure.

The International Hall of Fame highlights individuals, organizations and companies that foster a spirit of internationalism, promote a positive image of the region, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our community. Unlike the traditional hall of fame with brick and mortar, the Greater Cincinnati International Hall of Fame is an exhibit featuring photos and bios of inductees that travels throughout the region, and perhaps the world, telling the stories of the region's global connections; conveying the message that the Cincinnati region is more international than you think.

The 2004 inductees represent worthy individuals, educational institutions, cultural and art associations, non-profit organizations, global companies located in our region, and local companies engaged in international business. Other inductees include: Cincinnati State Technical & Community College, Nativity School, The Starling Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati May Festival, Middfest International, Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park, Children's International Summer Villages, Cincinnati-Kharkiv Sister City Program, International Visitors Council of Greater Cincinnati, James F. Orr, Edgar Richardson, Ed.D., LensCrafters, Inc., Jungle Jim's International Market, Procter & Gamble, and Standard Textile Co., Inc.

The Greater Cincinnati International Hall of Fame is made possible through the contributions of the 13 members of RLF II and corporate sponsors. The Founding Sponsors are: Convergys; Frost, Brown Todd; Mercy Health Partners; Northern Kentucky International Trade Association (NKITA); Northern Kentucky University (NKU); Procter & Gamble; Toyota Motor Manufacturing N.A.; and the University of Cincinnati. National City Bank is a Platinum Level Sponsor and Western & Southern Financial Group is a Friend of the Inductees.

In 2002, the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce created the Regional Leadership to bring various sectors of the community together to analyze and solve problems. The topic for the 2003 Fellows Team (RLF II) was creating and promoting a positive international image for the region that is appealing to businesses and visitors. After in-depth research of the topic, the team decided on the Greater Cincinnati International Hall of Fame to carry out its mission and vision.
