"BCW's Virtual Career Worship Was Just In Time..." (2/2/03)

"BCW's Virtual Career Workshop Was Just In Time...," stated one of the participants of BCW's first Virtual Workshop -- The Professional's Job Changing System held on Wed. Jan 31st, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

BCW's Senior Vice President, Ann Keeling noted that "The workshop was targeted to women in BCW's database, and the larger community, who were in the job market right now." The workshop was free to BCW members and to unemployed women who registered in advance. "Our goals were to test out the viability of providing workshops on line and to serve women who were suffering with unemployment right now," stated Keeling.

BCW's virtual workshop was a totally web based event, where our women convened to obtain valuable, current job search information, to analyze the stages of their career development and to develop their personal career map. A number of web based resources were identified that can assist the professional job seeker in analyzing their career, negotiating salary, developing a resume and pursuing current employment opportunities.

Over 20 women registered for the BCW virtual workshop and provided valuable feedback on its relevance to them. Most found the content to be very helpful and timely. One registrant stated that the "entire workshop was a 10 in my book!" Some registrants were very reluctant to discuss their career on-line, in the Career Chat Room, concerned about their anonymity. In future workshops, BCW will remind participants that they are free to use an alias in logging in to the Career Chat Room to hopefully make this resource more useful. BCW had 3 expert career advisers available to answer career concerns of those participating in the Career Chat Room. Our thanks to the women who helped us launch our first virtual workshop!

The next BCW Virtual Workshop -- The Professional's Job Changing System will be held in May, date TBA. Please spread the word and help us to continue to refine this program to better serve our women in Career Transition.

Special note: BCW is very interested in locating a Team of African American Women HR Professionals in a variety of organizations to participate in a Virtual Panel Discussion on "Secrets of Today's Job Market." If this interested, please email us with full contact info, so that we can plan this segment for the next virtual workshop.

BCW stands committed to helping our women learn and network with each other for mutual support and career advancement.
